How to change Joomla Admin Folder Name or Path ?

If you would like to 'sort of' rename your Joomla administrator directory without having to modify any Joomla code, you can achieve it the following way. Its extremely simple...

   1. Create a new directory in your root directory (eg. "myadmin")
   2. Create an index.php file in your "myadmin" directory..

      ## myadmin/index.php

$admin_cookie_code="1234567890";
setcookie("JoomlaAdminSession",$admin_cookie_code,0,"/");
header("Location: ../administrator/index.php");
?>

   3. Add this to the beginning of index.php in real administrator folder

      #administrator/index.php (modify , **do not replace**)
if ($_COOKIE['JoomlaAdminSession'] != "1234567890")
{
header("Location: ../index.php");
}

To enter your Joomla administration page, you point your browser to "http://yoursite.com/myadmin/" The php code will set a cookie that expires at the end of the session and redirect you to your real administration page. No one will be able to load anything from the administrator directory without having gone through the "myadmin" directory first.

ROWING | Learn how to row..

Rowing Technique..

Watch the video and think about angles of your torso, leg, and hip when you're rowing. Do you hold yourself in the same way while you're rowing? At the catch? During the drive? During the recovery? Rowing, much like the deadlift, is all about leverage. Leverage occurs when proper body angles are employed (among other things). It's physics and geometry.

Pay attention to body mechanics on the erg and get the most out of each stroke. You'll be helping yourself the next time a "rowing + x" metcon comes up.

How to manage EXAM STRESS

Exams are a time when stress levels are higher than usual. Stress can be positive, helping you to stay motivated and focused. However, too much stress can be unhelpful - it can make you feel overwhelmed, confused, exhausted and edgy. It's important to try and keep things in perspective and find ways of reducing stress if things seem to be getting on top of you.

Suggestions for managing exam stress

Effective study habits - Many people feel overwhelmed at exam time - having to revise a lot of information in a short space of time and not understanding course material can be a big stress. Check out Exam time: Hints for effective studying for more practical advice on effective study techniques.

Keep your routine outside studying + take regular breaks - It's important to have regular study breaks and time for relaxation and exercise. Going for a walk, run, or to the gym is not a waste of time, it is a great way to clear your head and help you study better.
Watching your favourite TV show or going to the movies are also good ways to take a break from studying. Check out the fact sheet on Relaxation for more ideas to help you relax.

Limit drugs - Caffeine (Eg - coffee, no-doz, V) and other drugs (Eg - speed, coke) give you a short lift before making you crash and burn. They can make you feel sick, and unable to sleep or concentrate properly. You actually study better with regular breaks, getting lots of sleep, and from exercising (really!).

Have a number of options for the future - Getting the marks to get into your first preference is great, but it's not the end of the world if you don't - there are other options to get into your course. These include deferring and getting some practical experience in your field, doing further study, writing to the university, retaking some subjects in some cases, or transferring in after a year or two. And, if you do accept another offer, you may find that you like it even more.

Manage expectations - External pressures around exams can be huge. It can be hard to deal with, especially with family and people you respect, but you need to remember that it's your life and your exam, with you in control.  Things that might help you manage expectations:
  • Base expectations on your past performance and doing the best you can do.
  • Put the exam in context.  In the scheme of your life, how important is it?  If you don't do as well as you'd hoped there are always other alternatives.  It's not going to dictate whether you are a good or a bad person, or whether you are a success or failure.  Exams can't measure these sorts of things - all they measure is how well you can present the material asked for by the examiner; nothing more, nothing less.
  • Take it as a compliment (admittedly this can be easier said than done).  These people want you to do well, and think that you are capable of achieving. Their definition of 'achieving' is sometimes a little (or a lot) misguided, so you need to educate people about what you think is realistic.  Talk to them, find out what they hope for you, and tell them what you are thinking and feeling.
  • Use the expectations of yourself and others to assist your studying.  Talk to people about how you are feeling, see if they have any advice or help they can offer.  It's important to ask for, and accept support from those around, especially family members.
Look after your body - It's easy to let exams get on top of you and to forget to look after yourself. If possible try to get a good nights sleep. It's a good time to make an effort to eat healthy, including eating plenty of fruits and vegetables.

Ask for + accept support - If you're feeling overwhelmed, you might find it helpful to talk to a teacher or counsellor.  It's also important to ask for, and accept, support from your family if you can. This support might be practical, like picking you up from the library, or emotional, including advice or help.

What is Joomla?

Joomla is an award-winning content management system (CMS), which enables you to build Web sites and powerful online applications. Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility, have made Joomla the most popular Web site software available. Best of all, Joomla is an open source solution that is freely available to everyone.

What's a content management system (CMS)?
A content management system is software that keeps track of every piece of content on your Web site, much like your local public library keeps track of books and stores them. Content can be simple text, photos, music, video, documents, or just about anything you can think of. A major advantage of using a CMS is that it requires almost no technical skill or knowledge to manage. Since the CMS manages all your content, you don't have to.

Five New Exoplanets Discovered By NASA's Kepler Space Telescope

NASA's Kepler space telescope, designed to find Earth-size planets in the habitable zone of sun-like stars, has discovered its first five new exoplanets.
Named Kepler 4b, 5b, 6b, 7b and 8b, the planets were announced Monday, Jan. 4, by the members of the Kepler science team during a news briefing at the American Astronomical Society meeting in Washington.
Right: An artist's concept of the Kepler space telescope on a mission to discover habitable planets outside our own Solar System.

"The discoveries show that our science instrument is working well," says William Borucki of NASA's Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, Calif. Borucki is the mission's science principal investigator. "Indications are that Kepler will meet all its science goals."
The five planets are quite a bit larger than Earth. Known as "hot Jupiters" because of their high masses and extreme temperatures, the new exoplanets range in size from similar to Neptune to larger than Jupiter. They have orbits ranging from 3.3 to 4.9 days. Estimated temperatures of the planets range from 2,200 to 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit, hotter than molten lava and much too hot for life as we know it.

Below: Kepler's first five exoplanets are large and hot. As the mission proceeds and Kepler has time to gather more data, smaller and cooler planets can be found leading, perhaps, to the discovery of planets like Earth.
see caption
"It's gratifying to see the first Kepler discoveries rolling off the
assembly line," says Jon Morse, director of the Astrophysics Division at NASA Headquarters in Washington. "We expected Jupiter-size planets in short orbits to be the first planets Kepler could detect. It's only a matter of time before more Kepler observations lead to smaller planets with longer period orbits, coming closer and closer to the discovery of the first Earth analog."

Launched on March 6, 2009, from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, the Kepler mission continuously and simultaneously observes more than 150,000 stars. Kepler's science instrument, or photometer, already has measured hundreds of possible planet signatures that are being analyzed. Kepler looks for the signatures of planets by measuring dips in the brightness of stars. When planets cross in front of, or transit, their stars as seen from Earth, they periodically block the starlight. The size of the planet can be derived from the size of the dip. The temperature can be estimated from the characteristics of the star it orbits and the planet's orbital period.
While many of the signatures detected so far are likely to be something other than a planet, such as small stars orbiting larger stars, ground-based observatories have confirmed the existence of the five exoplanets. The discoveries are based on approximately six weeks' worth of data collected since science operations began on May 12, 2009.

Above: The five planets were discovered when they passed in front of (or "transited") their parent stars, causing the stars' apparent brightness to dip.
Kepler will continue science operations until at least November 2012. It will search for planets as small as Earth, including those that orbit stars in a warm habitable zone where liquid water could exist on the surface of the planet. Since transits of planets in the habitable zone of solar-like stars occur about once a year and require three transits for verification, it is expected to take at least three years to locate and verify an Earth-size planet.
According to Borucki, Kepler's continuous and long-duration search should greatly improve scientists' ability to determine the distributions of planet size and orbital period in the future.
"Today's discoveries are a significant contribution to that goal," Borucki said. "The Kepler observations will tell us whether there are many stars with planets that could harbor life, or whether we might be alone in our galaxy."

For more information about the Kepler mission, visit the mission home page at http://www.nasa.gov/kepler.

PHP base64 encoding / decoding

The term Base64 refers to a specific MIME content transfer encoding. It is also used as a generic term for any similar encoding scheme that encodes binary data by treating it numerically and translating it into a base 64 representation. The particular choice of base is due to the history of character set encoding: one can choose a set of 64 characters that is both part of the subset common to most encodings, and also printable. This combination leaves the data unlikely to be modified in transit through systems, such as email, which were traditionally not 8-bit clean.

Base64 encoding makes it possible to send all kinds of data via Internet email.
If the internet is the information highway, then the path for email is a narrow ravine. Only very small carts can pass.
The transport system of email is designed for plain ASCII text only. Trying to send text in other languages or arbitrary files is like getting a truck through the ravine.

Base64 to the Rescue

Base64 encoding takes three bytes, each consisting of eight bits, and represents them as four printable characters in the ASCII standard. It does that in essentially two steps.
The first step is to convert three bytes to four numbers of six bits. Each character in the ASCII standard consists of seven bits. Base64 only uses 6 bits (corresponding to 2^6 = 64 characters) to ensure encoded data is printable and humanly readable. None of the special characters available in ASCII are used. The 64 characters (hence the name Base64) are 10 digits, 26 lowercase characters, 26 uppercase characters as well as '+' and '/'.
If, for example, the three bytes are 155, 162 and 233, the corresponding (and frightening) bit stream is 100110111010001011101001, which in turn corresponds to the 6-bit values 38, 58, 11 and 41.
These numbers are converted to ASCII characters in the second step using the Base64 encoding table. The 6-bit values of our example translate to the ASCII sequence "m6Lp".
  • 155 -> 10011011
  • 162 -> 10100010
  • 233 -> 11101001
  • 100110 -> 38
  • 111010 -> 58
  • 001011 -> 11
  • 101001 -> 41
  • 38 -> m
  • 58 -> 6
  • 11 -> L
  • 41 -> p
This two-step process is applied to the whole sequence of bytes that are encoded. To ensure the encoded data can be properly printed and does not exceed any mail server's line length limit, newline characters are inserted to keep line lengths below 76 characters. The newline characters are encoded like all other data.

Solving the Endgame

At the end of the encoding process we might run into a problem. If the size of the original data in bytes is a multiple of three, everything works fine. If it is not, we might end up with one or two 8-bit bytes. For proper encoding, we need exactly three bytes, however.
The solution is to append enough bytes with a value of '0' to create a 3-byte group. Two such values are appended if we have one extra byte of data, one is appended for two extra bytes.
Of course, these artificial trailing '0's cannot be encoded using the encoding table. They must be represented by a 65th character. The Base64 padding character is '='. Naturally, it can only ever appear at the end of encoded data.

Using PHP for this

  string base64_encode  ( string $data  )
Encodes the given data with base64.This encoding is designed to make binary data survive transport through transport layers that are not 8-bit clean, such as mail bodies.

Base64-encoded data takes about 33% more space than the original data.

string base64_decode  ( string $data  [,bool $strict = false  ] )
Decodes a base64 encoded data .

Colombo Stock Exchange | How to buy shares

What is a Stock Exchange?

A Stock Exchange provides a liquid, open market for buying and selling of shares, debentures etc. of publicly owned companies. Companies, which use the mechanism of the stock market to raise debt or equity capital, commonly enter the stock market through issuing shares or debentures to the public. Sri Lanka's only stock exchange, the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) currently has 237 listed companies, 15 member firms, 5 trading members and one specialized debt trading member.

What is a listed company?

When a company raises funds to support its growth by selling ownership interests (shares in itself) to the investing public, those shares need to be "listed" and traded on that country's stock exchange/s. These companies need to be in compliance with an Exchange's set of listing rules such as previous profit records, issued/paid up capital etc. in order to be admitted to the official list.

What is the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE)?

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) is the organization responsible for the operation of the stock market in Sri Lanka. The CSE is a company limited by guarantee established under the Companies Act No. 17 of 1982 and licensed by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) to operate as a stock exchange in Sri Lanka.

How do you purchase shares

There are two ways to purchase shares
  • From a new issue of shares (Primary Market),
    The primary market is the market for new shares or debenture issues. In the primary market, the security is purchased directly from the issuer (company). In a primary issue, the company offering the share/debenture issue publishes a document known as the prospectus. It is an invitation to the generalpublic to buy shares or debentures of that company.
  • On the Secondary Market through a stock broker.
    A market in which an investor could either buy or sell shares, debentures and Government Securities from or to another investor, subsequent to the original issuance in the primary market.

    Types of securities traded at the CSE
  • Shares
  • Corporate Debentures
  • Government Securities

What is Central Depository Systems (Pvt) Ltd?

Central Depositors Systems (Pvt) Ltd is wholly owned Subsidiary of the CSE, which has taken over the functions of Clearing, Settlement and Registration from the Stock Exchange.

How do I open a CDS account?

To open a Securities Account in the CDS you should complete an Account Opening Form, which can be obtained from your stockbroker or custodian bank. There are no fees charged for opening a CDS account. Your participant organisation may call for documents establishing your identity. It is possible to open and operate an account on the same day.

Every account will be identified through a unique account number and all correspondence and dealings, including trading and depository activities, will refer to this account number.

Your CDS accounts should be operated through your Participant organisation, and any changes to your account will have to be forwarded through theParticipant. You cannot issue instructions directly to the CDS.

What is the purpose of my CDS account?

Your CDS account enables you to participate in paperless trading on the Colombo Stock Exchange. Your account will be maintained in double-entry book-keeping format and will be updated on real time as your participant lodges your transactions at CDS.

What is the reason for holding my securities in scrip-less form?

The trading system at the Colombo Stock Exchange is fully automated and thereby the paper securities you lodge in your CDS account are translated into an electronic portfolio. When you buy securities, your account is automatically credited with the shares purchased and the corresponding seller's account is automatically debited with the same amount. Thus the entire process is automated and involves no exchange of bills or certificates.

Who is a Participant?

A participant is a central depository agent, either a stockbroker or a custodian bank, who has been authorized by CDS to open accounts in CDS on behalf of investors.

Who are stockbrokers?

Stockbrokers are registered members of an Exchange, authorized to buy and sell shares. These stockbrokers provide their services to the investing public interested in trading in shares of listed companies.

The CSE has 15 member firms and 6 trading member firms authorized to buy and sell shares

What do I deposit in a CDS account?

Shares and bonds

Must I open a CDS account?

Yes, if you intend to trade in shares, which have been selected for depositing, through the Colombo Stock Exchange.

Can I use a different broker from the one I have been using?

You may maintain multiple accounts through several Participant organisations. You can also transfer securities across accounts held with different Participants.

Will it cost me more to use CDS?

No. There is absolutely no increase in cost for the CDS accountholder.

What is the process of depositing securities?
  • Visit a participant with the certificates you want to immobilize.
  • Be sure you have already opened an account or are ready to do so.
  • You will be issued with and assisted to complete a Security Deposit Form.
  • Sign your form with the signature used when buying the shares.
  • Return the form to the participant together with the certificates you have included on the form to be deposited.
  • You will be given a receipt as evidence of your deposit.
  • The participant will forward the form and the certificate to CDS
  • CDS will forward the certificates and forms to the companyĆ¢€™s shares registrar for verification.
  • When the registrar confirms the certificates as genuine, the shares will be deposited in your account.
  • Once the shares are in your account you can trade in them.
How do you withdraw shares from CDS

You can withdraw shares from your account, using a withdrawal form that can be obtained from your broker, the CDS will facilitate the removal of shares from your account so that you may receive a scrip from the relevant company.

 How does Intra- Account transfers occur?

You may also transfer part or all, of your portfolio between accounts opened through different participant firms. Once the Intra-Account transfer is completed and forwarded through the respective participant, the CDS will acknowledge by returning a duplicate of said form. Once checked for accuracy and completeness, the transfer will take effect.

The Exchange has permitted free transfers through different accounts in the CDS in order to accommodate foreign clients operating in different time zones to that of Sri Lanka on completion of the relevant form. However these transfers can only be effected before the expiry of two market days from the date of conclusion of the first transaction ( T +2); and only on condition that there would be no change in the fund settlement source indicated at the time of the first transaction as a result of the subsequent transfer

How does Inter-Account transfers occur?

Private Transfer of securities may also take place between account holders providing a valid relationship exists, prior approval of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka must be sought in order for such transfers to take place.
